P2: GENERATE IDEAS FOR A NEW INTERACTIVE MEDIA PRODUCT FOR A CLIENT BRIEF
P3: Produce a plan for the creation of the interactive media product from the generated ideas
Blue sky thinking
Blue sky thinking is a method of creating ideas by writing anything you think of does not matter how silly it may seem you right it down this way you can later pick out and choose the points you want to focus on for example I chose 5 main points that I thought were good colour was one of them and the other ones are highlighted in orange. This is my first draft of ideas I have came up with for the chosen brief I also starting picking out the main points that I will need to focus on to ensure that my website meets the requirements of the brief as well as looking aesthetically pleasing so that the users enjoy using it. With my second draft I just finished off the best ideas section with the ideas I thought would be the most important to my site but there are some other ones I did not end up including that I thought that would be good for example being easy to use, having a rating system, multilingual choices for people from other countries who do not understand english or if english is not their first language as well as the competition idea as this would also make the users engage more with the site which in turn would make the overall site more interactive as the audience would be doing things on the site to get things like games, drawing competitions and more. |
Website Layout For the warnerbros website
I chose to the warnerbros website on the website they promote their new movies and products which will be a similar thing what my website will be doing except the topic it is promoting is different my website will be promoting the events that are occurring in Cambridge. Another reason I chose the warnerbros website is because I liked the layout as it is simple but neat and thats something I want to aim for. |
Sticky note ideas of possible navigational elements for my website
When I was creating my navigational elements names I took under consideration the layout of the warnerbros website as I liked it the main features I chose to include are:
|
How I predict the website to look like on the phone.
The first drawing from the left is how I would Imagine the of-the-fold looking on the phone, I want there to be imaged at the front and you can see more by pressing the scroll and the images would move under that there would be the social media links and at the bottom links to the our parts of the site.
The middle aspect shows of the hamburger menu that would be connected to the links to the other pages the way I drew it was to see the thing that would appear when pressing that button all the other content would still be in the background its just it would be a bit darker. And the last drawing shows the idea I had to include accounts and a search bar at the top of every page but I think some of these aspects might be hard to implement using coding so I might end up having to change my site a bit. |
How I predict the website to look like on the computer.
This is how I imagine the website looking on the computer, the first drawing from the left would be of-the-fold it looks very similar to the phone one the place where the social media subtitle it would be were the icon links to each site would be over all the website would look more spacious.
The second image shows the drop down logo unlike with the phone it's located at the top of the site as that is what the conventions of site building include that all navigational elements are at the top of each page for easy access and that is where most people look first. And finally the search bar it would include a number of results like youtube and google that's where I got that idea from but as I said before it might be difficult to implement this using code as it might be too advanced for what limited knowledge I have about coding. |
Website ideas
Here are some basic website ideas I came up with on power point I played around with the layout, fonts and colour to see what worked well I will probably include elements from some of them and combine them into something better.
Moodboards
Specification document
The purpose of this interactive website is to develop a new multimedia website to promote the events as the Brief explains it’s about the “entertainment value in Cambridge who host music, comedy, theater, dance and events”. The web site Will be ranged at a wide range of people both people new to Cambridge and people who live here. The website will have a range of features to make sure it’s easy in use and is very practical and not over complex as thats what the brief asks for “They require that the relevant information is easy to find and that the product is not overly complex to use” That is why I choose to do it this way.
Content that will be Included in my website will be a image and video gallery, map, contact information, how the company was created, event dates and locations, popular tourist destinations, places to eat and hotels.
My target audience is around (15-35) year olds, what they might want is a simple and easy to navigate website as that would be more time efficient other things my target audience may want is that the website is updated with new information about and events and links to social media for easier sharing. For the older people I would include bigger fonts to make sure they can read the text easily and for the younger audiences I would make the colour scheme of the website contrasting so it looks nice as well as including images maybe even 360 degree pans to add a layer of interactiveness as well as videos.

From the Brief provided by the client they state they want the website to
These were all of the requirements that the company mentioned in the brief all these aspects are essential for the website that the client asked me to produce and they will have to be complete to industry standard otherwise it will not attract positive attention and would be just ignored.
Users may want to customise the website to their own preference so It would be a good idea to add a login section where the user can change the font size as well as the colours to personalise it more to themselves and what they prefer this is also a interactive element as they user can interact with it other things the users may need is a help sections if they do not know how to do certain things this would be especially useful for older people other features the users may need/want is the ability to upload the own content and including a personal gallery on top of the community one maybe a good idea as it would allow users to interact and rate/comment on each others pictures as well as videos.
From the brief I noticed that the client wishes for the product to be “developed so that it can be viewed on a number of devices.” Meaning they most likely want it to be available for at least the main ones such as computers and phones as well as video game consoles in the future. My website will be made using HTML (HyperText Markup Language) so I will have to make sure each phone will be able to run the website as well as most of the well known browsing apps such as Firefox, Opera, Safari and Google Chrome as different users use different platforms so I have to make it convenient for them and make sure they can use it on practically any website and overall making sure my website is compatible.)

Below is my production schedule on how I'm planning to make everything.
M2: Explain the legal and ethical issues relating to product ideas
Colour schemes and font styles
With colour schemes I could not find any laws that apply to them this is because it's hard to copyright colour schemes but in terms of ethical issues would be the people who would realise that they look similar could call you out on it which would be bad publicity.
With fonts people and companies can create fonts and patent them so that no one can use them without permission and legally that would go under copyright and intellectual property and I could be sued if I used one like that without asking first.
Interactive elements
My interactive elements will be a video and a online chat the legal and ethical issues behind that could be if I own the video or not if I do not then I would have no right to use it but if it was a video I made then I would not have to worry about the ethical or legal issues.
Sources for content
Some legal issues that could affect my product idea is the sources for content so if I use an image from a website and I do not reference it the owner could try and sue me for plagiarism as well as copyright the ethical aspect links into this too as I know that would be wrong to do so I would have to ask the person who took the image or drew the picture if I could use on my website and have them sign some type of agreement just incase that way I could avoid any law cases against me as I would have gotten the permission from the creator of the content. I would also ensure I was including content that would not offend anyone, If I need to include it I would give a warning that would state “the following contains content that could be offensive to some people”, by not including offensive content it means my website would be suitable for a mass audience.
Benefits of using interactive elements
The benefits of using interactive elements such as videos and so on is that they interest the users much more than a bunch of text and they are also more interested if it’s something they are interested in and are passionate about this also could help you create a fan base. Including interactive elements such as live chats is a good way to allow the community to grow it self as the audience would talk in the comments and create the channels face.
As for the legal aspects again copyright if you try to use someone video or code to a live chat other things that could depend is what the interactive element is about and is it giving someone a bad name as if it’s talking badly about someone that could go under slander slander and it would be ethically wrong to include it on the website.
Limitations that will affect the product
The limitation that will affect my product is my lack of knowledge on coding this limitations exists as I have not experienced much coding using html5 and CSS this limitation will cause me to have to look up any code on how to do it I will do this to try and make the code as small as possible.
Another limitation is that i’m not an expert at building websites so I can’t be fully sure what my audience will like as they all are different. To overcome my limitations i’ll do research to how to code and how to make good sites this will include best colours to use and other things.
But the legal and ethical issues of my limitations include things like trying to copy other sites code or copying someone else's code without their permission not to mention it would be ethically wrong if I would earn any money from their code.
Another limitation of online media is that it does not have the same regulation as print media however that does not mean slander, libel and general crude language is accepted, it still would require moderation either through a profanity filter to prevent inappropriate language being used in the community chat or through a moderator who would ensure there is nothing that could offend the target audience. This would be mostly an ethical issue as young children could find something inappropriate in the chat if it was not monitored which could affect them in a negative way.
All elements and assets
Overall i’ll have to consider many things when creating my website as well as constantly referring to the brief to make sure my website is what it asked for.

D1: Justify the planned interactivity and range of media content to meet a client brief
I will include interactive features to make my website more interactive as well as making convenient for my users as that will make their experience with my website more enjoyable which could result in them revisiting my website, I will focus on two main methods of interactivity.
My reason for including at least 2 methods of interactive media content is since the my client asked me to include “a minimum of two forms of interactivity” this way I will be appealing to my client which is important in the industry, I will also want to ensure my website is creative so that it appeals to my target audience, that way I will ensure that I “provide the user with a positive experience” which was another thing that was featured in my brief.
The first form of interactivity I chose is a video, the reason I chose a video as one of my forms of interactivity is for its versatility in terms of how it can be interpreted so every audience member might take something different for it, this is good as means it's not like photos where you can only take it at face value and what is in the image. As well as videos are an effective form of interactivity that can vary in content that’s why most websites conventionally embed some sort of video that relates to the website topic in.
The second form of interactivity I chose to incorporate into my website is a live chat where the user is able to interact with other people on the website as well as moderators, I chose to include this feature as this allows people to interact with one another and meet new people with similar interests as well as slowly building a community of people who enjoy going to events, as this community would grow so would the site as they would recommend the site to friends, it would spread through word of mouth.
