Check list
This small check list is something I used to ensure everything was fully prepared for the recording of the show so that everything goes smoothly.

Here are my contributors preparing for the show with me having them test the microphones to ensure they all work normally and so that all volumes are properly adjusted.
The is also an Image of the sound files in Adobe Audition and how I laid them out with the audio from the recording being on top and the music I selected being under it as this way I was able to easily differenced thanks to the colour differentiation

In my production I used a range of different techniques that I have found out from existing products such as an intro to the show as well as a presenter which was me, contributors who held a debate on a topic area that I selected as well as including breaks between the debate/discussion to play music and at the very end a signing out cue setting up the next show as on radio you shouldn’t say goodbye since then the listeners would stop listening. As for why I used these different radio conventions is because they add to the radio show as well as they are standard practice in the radio industry for example many radio shows tend to repeat in five minute intervals the name of the station so that people know what they are listening to, with S.O.C as I mentioned before they are used as a transition between shows.
D2: Evaluate the flow of programme content and audio levels
When evaluating the overall show, I believe I have created a well done and fun lifestyle show with there being minor things that I would change if I were to attempt this again in the future. I believe the best aspect of my show is the fact that it’s entertaining while staying on the topic so I picked good contributors, but on the other hand, I think there are things I could have added.
The sound elements of my lifestyle show are all high quality and up to the standards in the professional radio industry, this is thanks to my use of quality equipment in a soundproof studio which made sure that the vocals of the contributors and the presenter are as clear as possible. I also looked into the conventions of radio which can be seen in LO1 which gave me a basic idea of how to make a quality radio production and the type of techniques and tools they use to produce them as well as the rules they have to follow to ensure they are abiding by the law. A factor that contributed to the quality of my production is the file format that I exported it as which was WAV since WAV is the best format for audio is it includes all of the audio data picked up without compressing it so lossless compression, whereas MP3 would have removed any frequencies human ears can’t hear making the file smaller but it would sound worse on speakers.
When choosing my music that I would include between the discussions I thought what music would be appropriate so I picked royalty free music since I don’t have a PRS license which would allow me to stream copyrighted music through the radio for an annual fee, originally when I was editing the final product the music was too loud compared to the rest of the content so I had to decrease the sound so it did not affect the quality of the production and so the audience members can enjoy the production full form.
When picking the topic for my lifestyle show I was thinking of the brief, also what is a topic that affects the modern consumers after which I decided to pick social media, when thinking what points I could cover I thought of the 6w’s so I thought I would ask some contributors on their views on social media as well as maybe sharing some personal stories and experiences with social media or about it. When picking my contributors I had to consider whether they are the appropriate choice for the radio considering their background and personalities, will they offend any members of my target audience.
I think there is still a lot of room for improvement within my show in different areas, one of these which I think would add to the production value as well as audience retention span would be a music bed which originally I considered but after looking at the conventions of lifestyle radio shows I didn’t see it used so I chose to follow that but looking back at it I think it could help since just talking maybe a bit plain for some audience members and by adding a radio bed it does connote to the conventions of general radio stations. Other elements I could have improved on is including a more diverse panel of contributors as that way I would have represented more unique views on social media, as well as maybe including some experts that utilise social media on a daily basis as a part of a business as that could be an interesting point of view on social media. Another small tweak would be including a jingle when I introduced the show
Overall I think my production turned out pretty well with the use of radio conventions that I have found during my research, with elements that if I were to do a similar project again I would change/ add to increase the shows appeal to the audience.
