P3: Develop an original story to be told within the graphic novel or comic
Title: Kakusareta-ryoku (or in English) Hidden Powers
Synopsis for the plot: A young adult boy named Mana left his home to learn how to control his powers and learn the martial arts in Tokyo, to find out more about the world. But unfortunately, he discovers how cruel the world truly is and how sheltered he was in his home, that he knew nothing about this and at that point, he made it his life's mission to make the world a better place.
Narrative structure: The way I am planning to use the narrative structure is:
At first, I want to keep the equilibrium and include childhood memories than have the disturbance of the equilibrium and a semi-solution of it as the cause of the disturbance does not get removed but the scene’s equilibrium is restored.
Genre: graphic novel, comic or digital comic
The genre of my creation will be: Graphic novel, Action, Superhero: and these would be my main three genres but the story will probably have sub-genres such as friendship over the comic if I were to continue, difficulties facing fears and so on
Target audience: My target audience would be around the ages of 9-18 and a male audience the reason for this is because of the message that will be in the story the message of loss and gaining strength for the benefit of others, not just yourself and other messages.
The lifestyle of my audience would not really affect my audience as it’s supposed to be quite unrealistic as the reader is supposed to be able to escape their everyday life and view the world through the protagonist's eyes but some aspects of the story may be relatable for some people.
Established Company: If I was to pitch my idea to an established company, self-publisher or internet I would probably pick the internet and have my own donation page for people to support me directly not through third party companies, the reason for this choice is simple as that way the third party company would not be able to take a large portion of the profits made allowing me to fund my work for better tools to improve the quality of my work.
But if I absolutely had to give it to a professional company it would be highly unlikely that I would get a chance to see them as most companies that produce comic books, graphic novels etc do not take ideas from other people as then if the company makes something remotely similar the person who proposed it and did not get anything out of it would have the grounds to sue them under intellectual property as they could say that them giving the proposal inspired them to make the new product. The only exception to this that I could find is if your a well established content creator at that point there would have to be a discussion between the company and the content creator.

Laws: Laws such as copyright and intellectual property would not affect me as my idea would be an original concept as that's what the brief asks for, the only way that libel would affect me is if I made a satire comic or one that is about politics. And slander would not affect me because slander it’s when you are “saying” bad things about a person and since my product is a graphic novel there is no audio.
Royalties only would affect me if I was to use music or other artists work that was free to be used as long as I gave them the credit for the work they created and linked it to their preferred source of contact this could be YouTube or Social media such as Twitter, Facebook, SnapChat etc. This would only be applicable if my graphic novel had a adaptation to animation or live action.
More mature content: More mature content such as violence, offensive language or behavior, other material is a topic of controversy as people argue what is right and wrong to be shown but as long as I give a warning at the front of the comic cover then It should be ok. Some comic book publishers such as marvel rate their own comic books with ratings such as all ages, T, T+, parental advisory and their max rating which is their 18+ comic books and they put this rating at the front cover so it's easily noticed.
Representation: When thinking about representation I would have to think about how I represent women, would I follow the conventions of male gaze or would I subvert and show women in a positive and strong light or would I show them as weak and defenceless. Other representations I would have to think about is that of the niche audiences and different ethnicities as if the comic or graphic novel is offensive it will not gain support and would most likely not get published.
Health and Safety: There is nothing really to think about when it comes to health and safety as I will only be drawing and writing. The only thing I could think of to relate to this would be exhaustion and not eating or drinking enough which would not apply to me as I would have designated times to when I would be doing my artwork.

Text bubble design
Text bubble design is very important as there are different connotations that come with them for example the one with a lot of pointy spikes all around suggests action or shouting where as the one that looks more like an actual cloud connotes thinking/ internal dialogue. When thinking about what types of designs I would be using I thought of my script and what type of dialogue is present in it, as there is mostly speech between characters I would use the oval design which connotes dialogue as for the narrations I would use the rectangular design as that is normally used to either describe a scene, state something etc. |

Font designs
Similarly to text bubble design it’s important to think of the connotations of the font and how well it works with the art style. Some of the more well known styles include Badaboom and back issues. Between the two styles I think my graphic novel would be better suited with the back issues font because it’s smaller and I would not have a need for very thick and blond test like Badaboom.
