P5: Source special effects footage in line with production plan
|
This footage is of Lewis my actor stopping because he is "tired" as he is an alien who is still getting used to our climate and the for not great at prolonged physical activities.
My special effect is meant to be Lewis (the actor) blood/saliva as he is an alien that is why it's green we have got him to drink a healthy green coloured drink to gain this effect and overall I'm very pleased with how it turned out. If I was to redo this shot I would probably have Lewis get a bit less of the drink as it looks like he has something in his mouth already which makes it look a bit less believable. |
P6: Review and edit sourced footage
The process that went into creating this shot was quite simple we were on public property in town so there were no problems and we just filmed the actor going up to the bike and unlocking it.
This shot is not what I originally planned as I changed a large part of my production as I had to move houses so the first part of my production was cut but this scene was still planned but it is not the same as I originally planned to follow the main character whereas here, in the end, I decided to have him walk into shot and unlock his bike and I feel like this turned out much better. The directions I gave to my crew is to all stay out of shot other than the actor who is meant to go into the shot and unlock his bike while I and the other actor would be looking to make sure that nobody got into shot in front of the actor while. I directed the cameraman to follow the actor and focus on the lock to make it look more dramatic. |

The second actor just had to stand for a few seconds while the bus went past as that is the reason why the first actor had a head start of him the process was as simple as that and the cameraman just had to just stand and record him.
I have not originally planned for this shot to be included but when I was on location I chose to include it for the sense of continuity and it creates a better effect on the overall story The direction I gave to the second actor is standing there and look in the direction of where actor one was and the direction I gave to the cameraman is just standing there and record him from afar. We worked on the risk assessment as the cameraman was wearing a high visibility jacket as well as I paid attention to an oncoming car. |
How the process of this shot went was the actors got some space to speed up so it does not look like they are moving for a stationary position then all they had to do is go by the camera of into the distance then stop.
In a similar fashion this was not really the exact shot I have planned in my storyboard but the most similar shot to this is scene 10 from my storyboard which was a kind of behind the person view but here I chose to tilt it more to the side as it looks more cinematically pleasing and in my storyboard the fire visual effect would have happened at this point but it was too early for that so I used it later. So the shot is quite a lot different from what I originally planned. The directions I gave to my actors were going at a moderate speed so that you are going fast enough for it to seem quick but slow enough to not endanger any pedestrians the cameraman just had to stay still and point the camera. We worked within the risk assessment as the cameraman had a high visibility jacket so that people can see him and after I explained what the actors had to do I supervised them and I was looking around to ensure there weren't any hazards that could have got in the way. |

The actors had some space to speed up as it was a road then they had to just bike past the camera which was mounted on a tripod to make sure the stability of the picture was the best it could be as this is the part where I would be adding my visual fire effect following the first actor.
This shot compared to the original storyboard is nothing nothing like it as the original was a head-on view of the first actor biking towards the camera were as this is a side shot as I would not be able to apply the fire effect if the actor was going head on this is why it had to be changed. The directions I gave to my actors was just bike past the camera and keep biking until your out of shot the cameraman on the other hand i had to tell him to make sure the camera is on ground level so that its easier to add the visual effect in post-production and I told the first actor to go as fast as he can as I already had an idea of how I wanted my fire to look like and I had some examples of it. We worked within the risk assessments as the actors took breaks between long shots where they had to bike a lot to prevent physical exhaustion through a repetitive movement. |
Firstly the cameraman had to go stand in the field then I checked where would be the best spot for the actor to stop as this is where my second visual effect happens the spaceship taking the actor then vanishing after deciding where the actor should stop we showed him then he did it.
The shots look similar both were side views but this is a long shot while the one I originally planned in my storyboard was a close/medium shot but in the end, I am happy with the results for all my shots for the limited resources we had. I told the cameraman that we first have to check roughly where the halfway of the shot is and how the spaceship could approach this after that I told the actor what he had to do so bike then stop and slowly look up where the spaceship will be added. We worked within the risk assessment by using public property so that we would not get in trouble we did not have any other risks to take into consideration as we were in the park where its much more secluded and less busy |

P7:- Apply planned visual effects to sourced footage
|
Time codes:
0:00 - 0:10 (I show the raw footage that has no effects applied to it) 0:11 - 1:07 (I move the 3D model on top of the raw footage) 1:08 - 1:24 (I demonstrate the use of keyer which removes the background of the image which happened to be the green screen) 1:25 - 3:07 (I keep readjusting the positioning of the ship so that it is over the actor at the right moment. ) 3:08 - 6:21 (I use the water background then use the draw mask tool too cut the outline for the tractor beam then I play around with the feathering so that the edges look less rough and more like a beam and I also made it a bit transparent) 6:22 - 7:10 (I was cutting part of the clip and slowing it down so that the ships tractor beam has time to activate.) This is the rough edit I will go back and perfect it for the final version of my product but this is how I did my editing. |
Time codes:
0:00 - 0:18 (Me showing the raw footage without any visual effects.) 0:19 - 0:40 (Importing the fire effect and showing it off.) 0:41 - 1:26 (Using the Draw mask tool again to remove the background and rotating the effect so that it looks like it's happening on the road.) 1:27 - 4:07 (I keep readjusting the opacity of the visual effect to remove the background as well as moving it around so the timing is better.) After this video, I added a keyer filter to remove the black background properly. |

Time codes:
0:10 - 0:15 (I just show random parts of the productions that have letterboxing that I have played around with before and now I will be fixing it so it looks better.) 0:16 - 0:34 (I apply the new letterbox and change the aspect ratio to 2.55:1 which makes the letterbox bigger this is often used in old movies when zooming in on a face shot to highlight the eyes I used it because it created a better effect for the video.) 0:35 - 0:51 (I show the 50s TV effect filter and how to apply it to my clip) 0:52 - 1:39 (I'm showing what extra effects I am planning to add to the spaceship to make it look better to do filters were x-ray and Flashing this is meant to create the sense of the ship warping away.) I forgot to show me applying the two filters to my spaceship but after the video, I have applied them |
