P3: Develop Ideas for Sound Elements for identified media purpose.
The brief I have chosen is brief 1 which entails me recreating chapter 5 of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein novel, this is a part of national book week and will be presented by BBC Radio 4. I will have to ensure that I follow all of BBC’s guidelines to ensure that it follows all the regulations to do this I will research more into the BBC’s code of conduct and more, as well as researching in depth what I will have to include in the production.
Below is a mind map that I have create with ideas corresponding to the brief I have picked.
I did a focus group with a small group of people and I explained my idea to all of them and my vision for my audio product, after explaining it everyone liked the direction I was going in say things like “You know what your doing” and “You have thought a lot about the different sounds and locations” as well as some things to improve on like using foley to get the specific sounds I need.
Assets Table
This asset table lists some of the ideas I already have for how I would make certain sounds for my production and how I would acquire the things to make the sounds. The majority of the sound will be made through foley while any sounds that can’t be made would be found online.
P4: Generate planning materials for the intended production of sound elements for identified media purpose.
Gantt Chart
This gantt chart shows my planned production time to ensure I have completed all components by the deadline, I chose to give the most time to production since that will take the longest I also gave production so much time as a contingency if anything goes wrong there will be extra time to re-record any necessary parts to ensure the high quality of the production.
Assets Table
This is my finished assets table, with all the links to the videos and sources from where I got my sounds from as well as all the sounds that I made myself through foley and what all of them will be used for.
Risk Assessment
In my risk assessment I covered all possible hazards that I could think of, that could occur in the studio that the voice acting will take place in. These range from electricity based risks to risks to do with falling and falling objects, I included who would be affected, counter measures and what to do if the hazard still takes place as well as the risk of injury which is determined by the probability and severity table.
Budget Sheet:
In my budget sheet I included all the necessary detail this includes the items I need and the estimated cost that I found out from my research, I also included the name, location, length and time period of recording.
Recce:
This will be the studio that I will be using it's small but it has all the necessary equipment that I will require for my production, this includes microphones, recording software, editing software and more.

SADiE is a software that has been used in the past by BBC which shows that it’s a trusted software, SADiE is also a software that allows users to record sound, edit, Mix and Master sound too it’s a very useful software with many useful features. Programs like SADiE are necessary in the media industry and especially the radio and sound industries more so since you communicate everything through sound so you would want it to be the best possible quality, to have the ability edit it at a moments notice. However I will not be using this software as I don’t have access to it, Instead I’ll be using Adobe Audition and most likely final cut or another program which I can edit all the files together with.
The Marantz MPM-1000 is a professional industry standard microphone. Quality microphones like this are important as they are the input for the audio, the better the microphone the more adjustments you can make to suit whatever production your working on. This microphone come with a pop filter to prevent it from picking up the sound of breathing or wind. With a impressive range of Frequency Response: 20–20,000 Hz it’s a good and relatively cheap industry microphone.

Final cut pro is a very simple software to use that I have experience with so I will most likely be using it to piece my audio together after I did all necessary changes in adobe audition, I also chose Final cut pro as it’s a good program for editing with many features that expand beyond sound. Final cut pro has a multi-track feature which is very useful as you can multiple tracks and aline any sound and video together so that it fits properly.

Timeline of production:
This is a timeline for my production day, after researching and considering how long my production is I decided that 6 hours in total is enough to record the whole production this also includes breaks for my voice actors but I they will not will be able to eat or drink and dairy products as it would affect their performance.

I and my class recorded a practice radio play called bang up made by the BBC we voice acted as the different characters then each of us had a task of individually editing the raw audio by adding sound effects that would fit the scene of the play. And this is what I produced, what I added/ changed was the pitch of some of the voice overs so they sound like they are over a message or a loudspeaker as well as adding room ambiance and other sound effects that I thought were appropriate.
M1: Identify resolutions to the legal and ethical issues for production.
One issue I would have to consider is BBC’s remit which is to entertain, inform and educate as it’s a public service broadcaster that is funded by the licence fee paid by UK households meaning all parts of the BBC have to be appropriate and include a range of ethnic cultures and no negative representation of any of them. I will have to consider the remit as it’s a legal issue as if I don’t abide by the BBC’s remit my audio book like show will not be show on BBC radio 4, to ensure that my show is appropriate I will go to the BBC guidelines and read them and based on them go about in creating my product, this way everything will go smoothly.
A potential ethical issue is my choice of actors am I portraying the characters in the book correctly are my actors appropriate or are they offensive stereotypes these are somethings I have to consider when selecting my voice actors, a resolution to this issue is to do thorough research into my voice actors to ensure they have not been a part of anything the BBC does not agree as well as to make sure that my audience will like them so picking a British voice actor maybe a small celebrity or something along those lines.
Copyrighted content is something I would have to consider as I will require music in the background of my production as well as any sounds that I can’t produce myself, a way I can resolve this issue is by using royalty free content and crediting the creators in the description of my show with all the appropriate links to their content alternatively if I use small extracts that last less than 30 seconds it will be okay.
Another ethical issue that would have to be considered is the language used in the book, if any of it would be inappropriate or could imply things while children are listening, this could cause complaints from the adults to avoid this I would at the start of the show and every 15 minutes mention a warning that the content may be offensive to people this way I could protect myself legally.
