P8: Produce and edit footage in line with the production plan applying any final effects
Time Codes:
0:00 - 0:45 (I import the raw files before they are going to be edited 0:46 - 14:50 (For this fourteen minutes I was cutting down my raw footage into the clips of it I am more likely to use the overall run time fell from almost seventeen minutes to just under eight minutes.) |

Time codes:
0:00 - 1:56 ( In this time frame I just showed the start of the video and how it looks as well as talk about something I'll be doing later in the video) 1:57 - 2:06 ( Here I demonstrated the black and white filter) 2:07 - 4:20 ( Here I talk and show what I am doing which is zooming in so that the tire is not present in the shot I do this through zooming that part of the video to 124%) 4:21 - 4:35 ( Here I show the part that the shadow is included I stated earlier why the letterbox is being used) For the rest of the video, I just go to the end and say why the effects look like that and how I put them together |
This is my Offline edit it includes all the things I originally planned to include.
Timecode: Of visual effects 4:00 - 4:07 (This is the time the fire trail is present on screen) 4:20 - 4:30 (This is the time the spaceship is present on screen) |
|
|
TimeCode:
0:00 - 0:27 ( In this part of the video I'm importing my audio) 0:28 - 5:36 ( In this part of the video I'm cutting and organising the audio files that I just imported as well as making them quieter between each beginning and end so it's more of a smooth flow instead of a jump just with the audio as that could hurt the audience's ears) 5:37 - 9:32 ( For the rest of the video I went into each raw clip and removed the audio from the camera so that it is mute of sound) |
I asked my audience for some quick feedback and what they said I need to improve is:
- Add filters to the spaceship and the tractor beam otherwise it loses the immersive effect as it looks like the spaceship is not affected by the flash( which is the warp speed) to fix this I will just apply the filters to the spaceship then it will look a lot better. - And try to remove the parts that I have been included on accident so what I will do is zoom in at does stages to remove that problem. TimeCode: 0:00 - 1:48 ( In this part of the video I was applying the filters over the spaceship to fix the mistake the audience pointed out.) 1:49 - 6:05 ( For the rest of the video I was zooming in on the parts where I am included and it improves the overall appeal of the video greatly. ) |

Codecs
Codecs stands for compression-decompression it is basically when the file of your choice is compressed so that it does not take up as much space by making it smaller the refresh rate and aka sample rate which results in lower quality and when you need to use it again you can watch it and the video decompresses it so it maintains the original quality.

What Apple ProRes 4444 XQ is:
The highest quality version as of now of Apple ProRes for 4:4:4:4 it has alpha channels which allow you to include text on black that would not be visible in editing as the black background is not actually there. It also preserves a very high data rate as well as features such as a target data rate of approximately 500Mbps for 4:4:4 sources at 1920 x 1080 and 29.97 fps. "According to Apple, both 1080i/30 and 720p/60 files require a data transfer rate of about 62 MB/sec and use about 223 GB to store an hour of material. Other frame rates and images sizes will be somewhat different." https://larryjordan.com/blog/what-is-prores-4444-xq/ Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 Uncompressed 10-bit is exactly what it sounds like it is the raw uncompressed file meaning nothing would be taken away from it to make it smaller, for example, the very high frequency sounds that humans can't see as well as the colours we would not be able to see as well the resolution stays the same no matter which types you pick the 10-bit part of it means it is sampling the file at 10 bits-per-second. What is H.264: standard definition: 0.5 Mbps to 15 Mbp H.264 is the codecs that give you the smallest file size and with the best quality this is extremely useful as it allows you to export files much quicker than the other export options meanwhile maintaining the quality of the production that is why this will be the most likely format I will use to export my footage as it seems like the best choice for the equipment I have. The Format I used:
I end up using H.264 as this seemed like both the best and most logical solution as the quality was the same but the file size was very small whereas when I looked at the others they took up a lot more space this is bad as it could get in the way and it would take a long time to render all of the videos and actually export it but H.264 would take a lot less time. |

D2: Justify the creation process against the original production concept plans
Quality of finished piece
I think that the overall quality of my production turned out very well for a student film I think this because I managed to create a professional piece of content step by step from preproduction to production to post-production. Even though it was my first time editing this style of video it turned out better than I expected I believe it turned out better than I expected because I was able to use final cut pros special effect with relative ease and improve my piece with effects such as warm colour correction and flashes and negative colours the reason why I used these effects is because I believed they suited what I was making and It looked better with it than without it.
Another reason why it turned out so well is because I used a three-motor axis gimbal consumer level camera that my friend let me use as long as he got to use it this helped as it stabilises movement of the camera so that it always is flat and now tilting I believe the camera I used was better because with any other camera moving around with a tripod would be inefficient as well as time-consuming which would prolong the over all production time which could even lead into another day which could be inconvenient for the other people in the production team.
I spent a lot of time playing around with what sound I should use as well as the shots I should use as well as when to cut the shots and many more things such as filters and special effects, I spent so much time on the editing because postproduction is a big part of the overall product and I wanted to do it to the best of my current abilities and because I spent more time I was able to notice mistakes that would have slipped by if I had not spent that time.
Final Cut Pro was the program I used to do all my editing I used Final Cut Pro because that was the best software we had available to us and that we could use to make a good quality product. It was very good as Final Cut Pro has a lot of features that I tried to utilise to the best of my ability. The thing that took me the longest would have to be the end part where the spaceship appears as I had to play around with the timing when it disappears as well as appears and the Tractor beam but in the end I am happy with how it turned out and all the time I put in it definitely shows.

Conventions of Visual / Special Effects
- Use of CGI - This is where I still struggle with as I do not know how to make my own CGI the reason I struggled with this is I have not had a lot of practice and I don't know what programs would be the best to make CGI with as well as this I'm only a student so my budget is very limited if any at all.
- Close up of the face - This is something I tried in my production but I feel like I have not executed as well as I could have I think this because if I had some practice with editing similar types of projects as my one it would have looked better whereas mine looked too slow as I decreased the speed too much which made it unrealistic as no one turns that slow.
- Vomiting - The vomiting special effect did not turn out as well as I wanted to I feel like it did not turn out well because the liquid we used was a healthy drink but it was fluent it was not chunky enough to be viewed as normal vomit but it did the job for what we had at the time if I was a part of a professional production team I would make sure to invest in realistic looking Vomit replica drink but make sure it tastes good as the actor has to put it in his mouth.
Originally my idea was going to be twice as long as I was going to include a sequence of quick cuts around the corners and all the way out in Swavesey because I thought it would improve the action aspect of my project as quick cuts are conventionally associated with the action.
But my final piece alone took 5 hours to record with breaks I can’t imagine how much longer it could have taken if I still tried to get the other half of my video in as my production took 5 hours to record in total its because we bad to re-shoot some shots as well as relocated multiple times which was a big factor in the production sage taking 5 hours and the reason I can't predict how much longer it would take to film the part I choose to disregard is because there would be a lot of factors that would play into estimating the time then like how long will it take for actors to arrive, sun light and how many reshoots would have to be done.
Some other things I originally planned but in the end I choose to cut them out or dropping the idea as a whole was the idea of having my actor Gianfranco stand in front of a green screen and try to balance on his bike this was to make it seem like the tractor beam is picking him up I ending up dropping that idea because it would have overcomplicated the production as well as looked goofy and unrealistic and would have brought down the overall appeal of the production.
Some other things I wanted to include was to have a GoPro to have some point of view shots this would have made my production more dynamic because the PoV shots allow the viewer to view the action through the eyes of the person that is being chased which would make them immersed in the video and make them feel like they are there. But unfortunately, I could not get my hands on a GoPro because good quality GoPro's cost upwards starting at £50 which I did not have. But the bits that were in the final production went out how I saw them even if we went a different route to what I had originally planned the only thing I could not use that I envisioned was the use of copyrighted music because I do not own the copyrighted music and if I did use copyrighted music without permission I could be sued if its for a promotional thing or if it is being monetised. If I could get the rights I would have used benny hills for the chase scene because it would at the comedic value which is what I was aiming for with the chase scene and I believe the benny hills music would fit it better as it's such a well-recognised song. Ways I could have got permission was asked the label or the person who produced it, buy the rights but I would have to have a lot of money like a big production team to be able to do that but overall it went mostly to how I envisioned it and I’m happy with that because at the end of the project I created the best piece of content I could with my current skill level.

If I could change anything I would have done much better planning by using more cinematic locations such as hills and countryside because I feel like hills add to the overall effect as hills are normally quite tall which could make the main villain or hero look better if it was a low angle shot looking up at them making them look more powerful.
Other things I would account more on extra time as the production always takes longer than you expect so I would give myself extra time and tell the crew and generally by more organised because if I was more organised and had an exact idea of how I want to make the movie and where to go it would cut out a lot of the extra thinking needed it would just be a matter of going to the different locations and recording the shot.
Production wise I would change quite a lot I would have tried to use more action like shots maybe eagle eye view if I got my hands on a drone or use a gopro to increase the range of different shots and most likely use it in the final scene when the character looks at the ship because that would have given the audience a better understanding of how big the ship was, I would always make sure after recording a shot that me or any crew that was not a part of it was not visible in the shot this includes the shadows and props because unintentionally I was in many of the shots with my bike by accident that is why I would make sure of that.
Editing wise I did not really like the way I did the fire because I feel like it was sloppy and it did not look realistic enough this is largely the reason of my inexperience with editing and not knowing all the tricks. If I were to do it again I would try to make it from scratch and make it looks much more realistic and take more time when aligning it with the bike going past the screen as well as using better filters for each shot and improving the look of the spaceship as my visual effects looks very amateur because it looks amateur because it does not look like its a part of the surrounding the 3D model I picked did not suit the over all look if I knew how to make it myself I would try to make it look much better.
As this was my first time making a production like this as a director I noticed I still have a long way ahead of me because there is still a lot of skills I need to develop before I can consider my work truly professional.

If I had to do something like this again with a different brief I would definitely increase my budget because this would allow me to use better equipment which would increase the overall quality of my production because it would improve the overall quality of my production because if I use better cameras they will have better resolution which means more pixels in an image meaning you would not be able to see these pixels because there are so many and they are all small, better equipment normally is easier to operate and has more customisation options. I would also try to be more ambitious with what I want to do to give myself more of a challenge and ask for more criticism as that is the best way to improve as when someone else is looking at your work they can tell you things you would not think about. I would also want to improve the skills that I lack in this includes editing and the production stage.
