When considering colour design for my character I had to think about it carefully as every colour connotes something a meaning behind it for example.

After analysing the meaning behind colours and the message I want my character to give off to the reader just from the first impression I want my character to seem innocent, so I will incorporate aspects of white as that is the colour that is associated with innocence. My character is only 17 and he has been very sheltered so he does not know much of the world but I’m going to also include elements of black as my character is quite powerful as he is part god because of his real father. I also looked at inspiration from other anime/manga that I have seen in the past to getter idea on the costume design and colour and I feel like I would have a similar design to Natsu from fairy tail mixed with Naruto’s trousers but the colour schemes would be different.
But I will also have to consider the aesthetic appeal of the colours do they clash or not I will make according changes based on things like that.
Clothing:
Clothing wise I want my character to dress quite smart as he comes from a rich family, so I was thinking a smart shirt with a Collar and maybe a tie, some type of jacket or trench coat to go over that this way his wealth would be displayed but also his character through the meanings behind the colours. This type of design would also allow me to have some freedom with the colour design for his outfit and as for the trousers normal suit like trousers would be fine and I could add small details to both of his clothing later like any accessories that he may wear with him. The clothing would change later in the story if I were to continue it beyond the point I plan to reflect the change in his character this would mean the main character would have multiple outfits he could use.
Features of the character:
When I was considering features that my character should have I referred to the previous picture for inspiration and I thought what each character has that is unique to them some of the things I noticed include their hair, scars, tattoos, clothing, body the shape and many more. Some of those features I thought of adding to my character like have him have a scar that he got in the past because of some event that changed everything alternatively I could make him have a unique hairstyle that set him apart from everyone else these type of features which would make my character instantly recognisable by fans and other people.
Abilities:
The abilities my character possess are super strength, control over lightning/production of lightning and shape shifting but the ones that I will demonstrate in the graphic novel will be only the production of lightning the reason behind this is that the main character is on a journey to learn more about his powers and to learn to control them so he can help people. So if I gave him all his powers straight away I would not have room to develop him as much power wise unless I gave him more powers which I don’t want to do since that way it will become a cycle of the hero getting new powers whenever he needs them, which would make the plot boring and not entertaining after a while. Plus the powers are a secondary focus the main focus of my graphic novel is developing a world where superpowers are real but people still face very real problems such as the loss of loved ones and many more this way I can create a connection between the character and the audience.
